Join us as we take a look back on where it all began with The Fryery and how we’ve grown over time, including our brand new look.
When we first opened George’s Plaice in 1982, it was the picture of tradition. Think iconic chalk board menus, chequered brown aprons, and glass bottled pop – and you have George’s Plaice. After becoming a household name in Wigton, we had the confidence to branch out further. First conquering Carlisle’s city centre with The Fryery, and then embracing the digital age with our Newtown Road and Scotland Road shops.
We’ve never shied away from a challenge, and we don’t plan on ever doing so. Although our shop locations and names have changed over the years, the foundation of what makes our fish and chip shop the best in Carlisle has stayed the same – our family and our passion.
Our trip down memory lane has also helped us remember how much we appreciate our local community, and how committed we are to supporting them. Here at The Fryery, we sponsor the Under 10 boys and girls Reiver’s football team, and the Ladies hockey team. During Christmas time, we also feed the local hospital paediatric ward, so keep your eyes peeled for more community news and updates from us via our Facebook and Instagram.
You might have already noticed, but The Fryery recently underwent a major renovation, with a new brand logo, cohesive branded packaging and a new easy to navigate website, which makes it easier for you to order, find out more about our shop or contact us, if needed.
Although we’ve had a bit of a facelift, our food is still the same delicious fish and chips that our customers know and love. All we know is how to make tasty, fresh and quality food, and that won’t be changing anytime soon! Check out our new menus and place your order.
If you’re looking for delicious fish and chips in Carlisle, be sure to visit The Fryery. You won’t be disappointed.
